Self-reliance is neat.
Independence is cool.
Doing it yourself on nearly any and everything is…hm.
Too much of anything isn’t always the right thing. Hell, too much water can drown you so if you’re someone that likes to rely on yourself and only yourself for everything…Hmm…it might be a good idea to balance that out by allowing yourself to extend to others for assistance. *thumbs up*
I tend to second guess almost everything I post, do, buy, text, message, apply to, etc in fear that it was a mistake but then I think this and figure, “Well, WHATEVER happens from it, it’ll be a lesson and I’ll grow from it.”
So one of the first things I did when I decided I wanted to become a “Carefree Black Girl”, was “buy black”. I wanted to support my community exclusively because:
- Why not?
- Other communities do it.
- Why not; especially with everything anti-black that was going on?
During the Black Friday sales, I used blackownedbusiness’ directories (still do), asked followers on my main blog where could I find a deodorant and was directed to OyinHandmade. I loved how cute they were, loved that they used natural ingredients for all their products, loved they had things for both body and hair and decided to buy.
But…I was expecting to feel something y'know? Like the “Carefree Black Girl” aura bestowed upon me from the spirit of Solange. Or Erykah Badu. Iunno.
Here’s the first of these comics that will serve as documentation on my journey to that Carefree Black Girl Aesthetic (NOW CALLED CFBG TIPS;) so…yeah.
